The Line That Opens the Gates of Prayer Before we open our hearts in prayer, there’s something God hopes to see. More than just the words, or deep intention, God wants to see unity. The Fifth Chabad Rebbe once told his son: Before asking something from your father, bring him joy. And what brings God the greatest joy? When His children — so different from each other — choose to care for one another. That’s why we begin each morning with one quiet promise: “I accept upon myself the mitzvah to love
