You could put some on the SSD and some on D, but that wouldn't make much sense. Your SSD presumably contains Windows and applications and maybe whatever you put there by mistake.

I booted the PC with the Macrium bootable rescue disc (actually a bootable USB flash drive) and "restored" the disc image to the new SSD. I might have been able to use clone but I've had 50/50 success with clone and I've had 100% success with the disc image so I used that.
