The first flag of the republic was the "Burnet Flag" (a single gold star on an azure field), followed in 1839 by official adoption of the Lone Star Flag. Internal politics of the Republic were focused on two factions.

The first official national flag of Texas, adopted on December 10, 1836, was blue with a central yellow star. The republic’s naval flag resembled the banner displayed by James Long in 1819, except that the canton was blue rather than red.

This flag has become known as the first official Flag of the Republic of Texas, accepted by the March, 1836 convention that drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico and the original Texas Constitution.

This flag had a blue field with a white five-pointed star in its center. Around the star were the letters T-E-X-A-S.

Apr 9, 2021 · After winning independence from Mexico in 1836 Texas claimed the Oklahoma Panhandle and flew the newly designed Texas flag. The first flag of the Republic of Texas featured a gold five-point star, or lone star, in the middle.

It was approved on January 25, 1839, and signed on the top by Mirabeau Lamar, President of the Republic of Texas; John M. Hansford, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives; and David Burnet, President of the Texas Senate.
