May 5, 2017 · I currently use Smartwool PhD ultralight merino wool hiking socks for my thru hikes. the problem is the durability of the sock is not what I expect for the price point. also, because it is so thin and light, my foot tends to shift inside my shoe a fair amount. on the flipside, they dry quickly. darn tough seem to be a popular alternative.

Jan 5, 2010 · Posts. 2,281. I never, ever, hike in cotton socks. They keep way too much moisture, are rough on the skin, and wear out quickly. I either hike in synthetics (mainly Thor-Lo brand) in the summer, or wool or wool/synthetic blends in the colder months. As for wicking, a thin liner sock (synthetic) helps a lot with that.

May 9, 2017 · Remember that the worst conditions is 30F and raining, 10F and snowing is much more comfy. Better than any Gore Tex sock. Hanz may be are owned by Seal Skinz. .5 mm NRS socks made for paddling also are fine. I have Gore Tex Rocky WP socks, Seal Skinz WP socks, NRS neoprene .5 mm, and the Hanz model mentioned.

Jun 20, 2017 · Watching a zpacks hiking videos, Red Beard was talking about how Joe turned him on to Wigwam Triathlete socks. All my prior hiking socks were the wigwam ultimax socks so I tried them when I switched to trail runners. Haven't got big mile on them to speak of durability, but my other wigwams have all held up well.

Anyone use the possum down socks? - WhiteBlaze
May 14, 2019 · For a regular backpacker/hiker... i think the possum down is the way to go. You could also hike in them if needed. They would make much better impromptu mittens if need be. In conclusion, I felt like they were good for the $20 a spent on em. I don't feel the same about the $60 I spent on down socks.

May 2, 2022 · I also wear a thin lightweight low cut hiking sock, no gaiters. I make a point to at least at lunchtime to stop in a sunny spot, pop off the shoes, pull out the Superfeet liner, and take off the socks, all of which get laid out in the sun if possible. The speed laces on the Salomons are super helpful to do this.
