The Denver Broncos gave Nik Bonitto more than $100 million this offseason. It already looks like an absolute steal of a contract. Bonitto has followed up his breakout 2024 season with a ridiculous start to 2025. In the process, he's looking like a bargain.

Last year, Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year. This year, Surtain says that honor should go to his teammate, Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto. Bonitto says it’s way too soon to say that.

Nik Bonitto is currently the favorite in the odds to win the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year award, and the star linebacker has now addressed the topic with a clear statement.

High school coach Harriott on Bonitto: "As a man he never lost that youthfulness and he doesn’t do it for the money. Nik really performs for the right reasons."

Bonitto has been so good that ESPN's Bill Barnwell writes that Bonitto would be Defensive Player of the Year if he continued like this. He has 4.5 sacks, second just to Brian Burns (5.0), but leads in every other pass-rushing category.
