The Helldivers 2 film is one of a number of adaptations announced by Sony at CES, including film productions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn, and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima — not to mention the release window for The Last of Us Season 2.

They announced that Sony Pictures is working on a film adaptation of last year’s hit Helldivers 2, while Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are in “early stages”

Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

Sony seems determined to turn every PlayStation game in its library into a movie or TV show — and it has continued that push by announcing that it’s developing live-action movies based on Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2.

Finally, Ghost of Tsushima, Sony’s Edo-period samurai game, is being turned into an anime TV series by Aniplex, the studio behind anime including Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online, for the Crunchyroll anime streaming service.
