The first group of immigrants has arrived at a new detention center deep in the Florida Everglades that officials have dubbed ''Alligator Alcatraz,'' a spokesperson for Republican state Attorney General James Uthmeier told The Associated Press.

Hundreds of immigrants awaiting deportation will arrive Wednesday night at the detention center the state built in the Everglade Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on X.

"If somebody were to get out, there's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide — only the alligators and pythons are waiting," Uthmeier told "Fox Business."
