U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly said during his campaign he would be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in 24 hours” upon taking office.

The encounter came just four months after Trump and Zelenskyy clashed in a heated Oval Office confrontation on Feb. 28, in which Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance accosted the Ukrainian president, accusing him of being "disrespectful" and not "thanking" Trump for his support.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted a factor that could significantly influence the end of the war — economic pressure on Russia through sanctions. He believes this could lead to social changes within the aggressor country,
