The mother of a newborn girl who was abandoned at a busy midtown Manhattan subway station with her umbilical cord still attached was arrested early Wednesday, city police said.

A newborn baby found abandoned in a New York City subway station was rescued by first responders and is being called the “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Surveillance images show the woman, wearing a red headscarf, heading to the train station, where police say she abandoned the baby.
