Mauna Loa Showed Telltale Warning Signs Before Erupting In 2022
That happened two years ago with the world’s largest active volcano. About two months before Mauna Loa spewed rivers of glowing orange molten lava, geologists detected small earthquakes nearby and other signs, and they warned residents on the Big Island.
Officials told residents to be ready to evacuate if lava flows start heading toward populated areas. Many now living in the area weren’t around when Mauna Loa last erupted 38 years ago.
