The progress of starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been the talk of training camp at TCO Performance Center. Whether the Vikings had a good practice or a bad one can often be reduced to how McCarthy performed in the heat of battle.

There have been conflicting reports coming out of the Minnesota Vikings' training camp on former Michigan star J.J. McCarthy. The reality is, McCarthy has a chance of being an above-average quarterback. The issue, however, and something that Vikings fans might not want to hear, is that he's coming off a tough injury.

Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will play in the preseason opener Saturday, though coach Kevin O'Connell didn't say how long he will play.
