India said it would immediately suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan as part of measures to downgrade diplomatic ties with its neighbour after militants attacked tourists in Kashmir, killing 26 men.

Pakistan warned India on Thursday that it was committing an "act of war" by suspending a landmark water-sharing treaty in response to a deadly terror attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The threat from Pakistan Prime Minister's Office followed a number of diplomatic measures imposed by New Dehli on Islamabad as tensions flare between the neighboring nuclear powers.

India’s unprecedented move to suspend a water-sharing pact in response to a gun attack in Kashmir earlier this week threatens to hurt crops and power generation in Pakistan, just as temperatures begin to rise sharply in the pre-monsoon summer.

Vice President JD Vance and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi touted “significant” advancements in trade talks between the U.S and India Monday. The comments were made during Vance’s diplomatic trip to India with second lady Usha Vance and their family.
