As part of their effort to pass a massive tax, immigration and spending cuts package, House Republicans are eyeing plans to shave billions from the federal budget. Some of those cuts could affect Medicaid and the related Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Johnson has been meeting with moderate Republicans who are urging leadership to abandon the most controversial Medicaid cuts.

House Republicans are scrounging to come up with as much as $1.5 trillion in cuts across federal health, food stamp and other programs to offset the revenue lost for some $4.5 trillion in tax breaks.
