Freevee, which got its start as Amazon’s IMDb TV but adopted its current name in 2022, is one of a handful of streaming services that rely on ads for revenue instead of paying subscribers.
Freevee traces its roots back to January 2019, when it was launched by Amazon subsidiary IMDb as Freedive. It was subsequently rebranded as IMDb TV, Freevee and Amazon Freevee.
The Freevee brand’s fate was sealed when shows like its biggest hit “Jury Duty,” as well as “On Call” and “American Rust: Broken Justice,” migrated over to Prime Video.
