Georgia basketball’s shot at program history bounced off the front iron on Saturday as the Bulldogs fell inches short of taking No. 1 Auburn to overtime.

The No. 23 Georgia Bulldogs welcome the No. 1 Auburn Tigers to town for college basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 18.

ATHENS—The scene at Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday has become routine lately. Georgia students were lined up around the corner more than an hour before the game, waiting to get in. Bulldogs football coach Kirby Smart was in the building.

The Bulldogs led the Volunteers at the break, but a second-half surge from No. 6 Tennessee put the game out of reach for No. 23 Georgia.

Of course, the sellout was sort of anticipated the minute 11-time Olympic-medalist Simone Biles made the announcement she'd be in the building to support her long-time coach. Biles flew into the Classic City with her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, and the pair were gifted custom jerseys from the football program.

Georgia was unable to win it’s third straight home game against a ranked opponent on Saturday as it fell to No. 1 Auburn by a score of 70-68. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 17 in the first half and by nine with just 41 seconds left and missed a close-up look at the buzzer that would have tied the game.
