After 25-year-old third baseman Mark Vientos posted 135 OPS+ in his second full MLB season for New York, the Mets never made much sense for Arenado. This became even more unlikely when New York re-signed slugging first baseman Pete Alonso, removing the possibility of Vientos sliding to first and opening up third for Arenado.

The New York Mets made several key signings to bolster their rotation this offseason. One starter, Frankie Montas, has already gone down with a lat injury. But that wasn't the end of the Mets' issues with injuries. The hits keep on coming, and on Monday, it was revealed that yet another starter would miss some time.
