Chelsea have reportedly ‘made contact’ with Benfica over a possible move for their £83m defender Tomás Araújo in the January transfer window. Araújo has established himself as an important player in the Benfica XI and the Blues are believed to be ‘in love’ with the impressive young centre-back.

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill are the preferred pair in the centre with Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi all viewed as backup options. However, with Disasi potentially being considered for an exit if his lack of game time continues, Maresca may be of the opinion that he requires a replacement.
