The Los Angeles area continues to receive "beneficial rain" as an atmospheric river lingers over the region. Another storm is expected to develop next week.

Two storm systems are bringing rain to Southern California through Friday, but some areas are expected to see less than an inch of rain.

A slow-moving low-pressure system will linger over the Southwest, bringing steady rain through at least Monday.

A Pineapple Express forms when the jet stream dips south into the tropical Pacific near Hawaii, scooping up warm, moist air and carrying it northeast across the ocean. Named for Hawaii's famous fruit and the storm's origins near the islands, these powerful systems can dump the equivalent of 10 to 15 inches of rain over two to three days.

The gusty atmospheric river storm could cause flooding and rockslides but also will help reduce the risk of wildfires with more dry winds in the forecast.
