The winners on separate nights matched the numbers on the five balls drawn in the nightly game, lottery officials said.

A Powerball player kicked off the new year with a huge Powerball win in North Carolina. The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Jan. 1 drawing, making it worth $1 million, results show. The winning numbers: white balls 6-12-28-35-66, with red Powerball 26.

No tickets were sold matching all six numbers in Wednesday evening’s drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, pushing the estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing to $240 million.
