Pope Leo XIV closed the 2025 Holy Year by denouncing consumerism and anti-foreigner sentiment, after 33 million Catholic pilgrims visited Rome. He urged Christians to welcome strangers and pursue peace.

Pope Leo XIV warned on Friday that force-based diplomacy is increasingly replacing dialogue, with his remarks coming against a backdrop of heightened global tensions, days after the United States conducted an operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife,

The “Pray with the Pope” initiative is part of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, which, during the pontificate of Pope Francis, launched the project known as “The Pope’s Video,” through which the faithful were invited each month to unite in prayer for a specific intention.

Speaking at his General Audience on Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV said the Vatican II ecumenical council has “prophetic and contemporary relevance.”

Pope Leo said the Vatican's Jubilee had encouraged Christians to reject "the flattery and seduction of those in power" and welcome strangers.
