A tornado warning for southeastern Guthrie County was allowed to expire as planned for 12:15 a.m. Friday. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Casey at 11:45 p.m., moving east at 35 mph.
The National Weather Service released a preliminary report on the storm in western Davenport on Friday. Meteorologists surveyed the area Saturday. A preliminary report determined an EF-2 rated tornado with estimated winds of at least 111 mph.
Team Scott McLaughlin got the early jump on speed at Iowa Speedway as the Sukup INDYCAR Race Weekend opened following Friday’s inclement weather. McLaughlin was joined in the top five of the morning practice by teammate Josef Newgarden as Roger Penske’s organization seeks its first race win of the season.
