For the second straight day, the Red Wings blew a two-goal 3rd-period lead. This time, however, Patrick Kane scored in OT for a 5-4 win over Anaheim.

Alex DeBrincat banged in the rebound of Dylan Larkin’s shot at 4:29 during a five-on-three power play. It was a rare occasion when a team received two penalties on one play (tripping calls on Isac Lundestrom and Brian Dumoulin). It was his team-leading 26th goal. Kane whipped in a shot from the high slot at 5:06 on the power play.

Ryan Strome had the other goal for Anaheim (25-24-7). After blowing a 3-1 third-period lead to Minnesota the day before, the Wings wanted an opportunity to wipe that particularly memory clean. It was the type of defeat the Wings had skated away from since going 16-5-2 upon the arrival of coach Todd McLellan.
