Pto shaft guards, for instance, are often overlooked – either because they’ve broken in the heat of a high-pressured harvest season or, increasingly commonly, because of the cost of replacements.
Under certain conditions without stabilizer bars your Power Take Off (PTO) shaft can hit part of your implement frame, and if you’re fortunate, only damage the plastic guard around it.
The guards are meant to cover the PTO shaft from the tractor, the transmission housing that couples the PTO to the baler shaft, and the baler shaft itself.
PTO stands for 'power take-off' shaft which is the power source for many machines attached to and powered by tractors and can rotate at speeds up to 1000 rpm.
They also provide a discount for an annual health check on pto shafts. Since the scheme was launched in May, some 269 pto guards have been replaced.
