EAST TAWAS, MI – The application period to apply for a chance to be a lighthouse keeper for two weeks at one of Michigan’s historic Great Lakes beacons has been extended to Feb. 28.

The Tawas area, including Tawas City and East Tawas, along Tawas Bay on the Lake Huron coast in northeast Michigan is a popular tourist destination.

Following 15 months of renovations, the Tawas Lighthouse in Tawas Point State Park is kicking off with a grand reopening event on May 2.

Tawas Point State Park and Lighthouse was awarded a $455,000 grant through the American Rescue Plan Act, according the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
