The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is saying goodbye to its Nile hippopotamus, Mahali, as he moves to a wildlife preserve in Texas this fall.

Denver Zoo’s only hippo will move to the Lone Star State this fall so the organization can conserve water and update the hippo exhibit, which no longer meets certification standards.

Mahali, the Nile hippo at Denver Zoo, will relocate to a Texas preserve to ensure his wellbeing and support conservation efforts.
