A hosepipe ban will be issued in the South East as the third heatwave of the summer hits some parts of the country. Due to the prolonged period of warm and dry weather, South East Water said that the demand for drinking water has “reached record levels” since May.

South East Water said the ban means customers in Kent and Sussex will not be able to use hosepipes for activities such as watering gardens and washing cars, windows and patios, or filling swimming and paddling pools. It will be enforced from July 18 and until further notice, with those who ignore the ban facing fines of up to £1,000.

About 500 properties in an area of Kent are still facing water supply issues for a third day in a row. On Wednesday, South East Water said up to 3,000 customers in Whitstable, Seasalter and surrounding areas had no water or low pressure due to the recent heatwave.
South East Water blamed the 2022 heatwave and extreme weather for this. The company admitted that it lost 92million litres of water a day through leaks on a three-year rolling average in 2021/22.
Many of the 500 Kent properties that have had an ongoing water supply issue for six days have had their supply "fully restored", according to a water company. On Wednesday, South East Water said up to 3,000 customers in Whitstable, Seasalter and surrounding areas had no water or low pressure due to the recent heatwave.
