Meanwhile, Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates announced Tuesday that his office is withdrawing a previously filed motion to vacate Syed’s conviction in the 1999 killing of his high school ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, who was found strangled to death and buried in a makeshift grave.

A Baltimore judge is expected to rule on whether Adnan Syed’s life sentence should be reduced Wednesday afternoon after an hourslong morning hearing. Attorneys broke for lunch after testimony bled into the afternoon.

Syed, whose case garnered international attention after the “Serial” podcast, has a hearing Wednesday seeking to reduce his sentence and allow him to remain free.
