Pete Alonso lofted the walk-off sacrifice fly Monday night for the New York Mets, who edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 in the opener of a three-game series.

New York (27-15) did most of its damage against the Pirates' (14-28) bullpen, starting with Juan Soto's RBI groundout and Pete Alonso's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Then, the latter star hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza sounded off about Alonso after the game, via SNY.
