With a thin rotation and an overworked bullpen, the Mets needed Blade Tidwell to pitch deep into the second game of their doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers and he did not disappoint.

Former Tennessee pitcher Blade Tidwell (1-1) earned his first MLB career win in Wednesday's second game. New York defeated the Brewers, 7-3. He pitched 4.1 innings in relief and recorded three strikeouts. The former Vol allowed five hits, two home runs, three runs (three earned) and two walks.

Amid a series of roster moves Thursday, the New York Mets placed right-hander Paul Blackburn on the 15-day injured list because of a shoulder impingement. The move is retroactive to Sunday. The Mets also placed right-hander Dedniel Nunez on the 15-day IL with an elbow sprain,

The Mets’ pitching ranks continue to thin out due to an onslaught of injuries that claimed two more arms on Thursday. The team announced prior to their series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers that starting pitcher Paul Blackburn was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to June 30 with a right shoulder impingement.

The pitching problems for the Mets have grown worse. Paul Blackburn (shoulder impingement) and Dedniel Núñez (right elbow sprain) were placed on the 15-day injured list before Thursday’s finale against the Brewers at Citi Field.
