Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer is working to recover from a tough game against Texas. He completed just over 50% of his passes, threw three interceptions, and the Sooners lost 23-6 last Saturday.
The Sooners' quarterback struggled last week against Texas and must get things right before the team hits the road at South Carolina this week.
Mateer finished 20-of-38 for 202 yards with 3 interceptions. He had 14 carries for 5 rushing yards, and was sacked 5 times by Texas.
The Oklahoma Sooners pulled John Mateer out of the Transfer Portal this past offseason, and he took 2025 by storm. At one point, he seemed like a sure-fire Heisman candidate. Then, he injured his hand and needed surgery.
For John Mateer, Week 7 of the college football season was fairly painful. Not only did Mateer, in his return from a broken bone in his throwing hand, struggle on the field, but his NIL valuation took a significant hit because of the loss. Suffice it to say, it was a painful experience all around for Mateer.
