Instagram has launched Edits, a video editing app that’s intended to rival the TikTok-linked equivalent CapCut. First announced in January, Edits is available for free from today on iOS and Android.

Meta Platforms Inc.’s Instagram unit rolled out a new video-editing app Tuesday, as the social media site seeks to lure creators from TikTok.

Instagram is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to determine if kids are lying about their ages on the app, parent company Meta Platforms said on Monday.

In a blog post, Instagram says that starting today it will use AI to detect users lying about their age and automatically move those accounts to one of the limited teen accounts that debuted last fall.

Meta says it's doing more to make sure as many of its younger users as possible are using the teen accounts that it has rolled out for Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. Starting today, it's testing artificial intelligence tech in the US to detect whether a person is a teen — even if they've lied about their birthday to make it seem like they're an adult — and then move them to a teen account.
