Erin singlehandedly has pushed the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season into hyperactive territory. By undergoing what can only be described as “super” extreme rapid intensification (RI), Erin went from a tropical storm to a Category 4 cyclone in the span of 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings.

Forecasters are keeping a close watch on other potential storm systems that could develop in the Atlantic Ocean in the next seven days.

The tropical storm rapidly intensified into a category 5 over warm Atlantic water, causing heavy rains and strong winds on nearby coastal regions.
