Germany's interior minister said on Monday it was still too soon to jump to any conclusions about the man suspected of driving his car into a Christmas market in Magdeburg and killing at least five people.

A Saudi doctor drove into a market teeming with holiday shoppers in Magdeburg, an official said, as people mourned the victims and their shaken sense of security. Some 200 people were injured.

Video showed a car plowing into a large crowd in the city of Magdeburg. The driver, identified as a 50-year-old Saudi Arabian citizen who worked as a doctor, was arrested.

The suspect in the attack in Germany had history of threats and harassment though no record of violence and an ideology that didn’t fit familiar patterns.

The suspected perpetrator involved in the fatal incident at the Magdeburg Christmas market is expected to lose his medical licence, the regional administration for the state of Saxony-Anhalt announced on Friday.
