Ex-chess world champion's comments looked at after Naroditsky's death
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) on Wednesday said it would look at public comments made by former world champion Vladimir Kramnik before and after the death of US chess grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky.
The scandal seems a world away from the Bay Area, where Naroditsky’s old friends and mentors remember a bright, soft-spoken young man who loved volunteering to teach others the sport.
In 2022, world champion Magnus Carlsen accused another player, Hans Niemann, of cheating. (Niemann has admitted to having cheated in some games when he was younger but denied cheating since.) But in the wake of Naroditsky’s death, Carlsen said that he was taken aback by the ferocity of Kramnik’s attacks and that he privately supported Naroditsky.
