Sensex ended 368 pts higher at 78,507 and Nifty climbed 98 pts to 23,742. Market cap of the BSE-listed firms stood at Rs 444.46 lakh crore in today’s session.

As the day came to an end, the BSE Sensex slumped with marginal losses of 109.12 points, or 0.14 per cent, ending the day at 78,139.01. Similarly, the NSE Nifty dropped in value by 0.100 points or 0.00042 per cent, to close at 23,644.80.

Highlights: On the last trading day of the year, Sensex ended 109 points lower amid weakness in IT and select banks. IT index slipped 1.5%, while India VIX rose over 3% on Tuesday.

This comes after the stock market experienced a crash during the later trading hours of the previous day's session.
