Syria is set to sign a deal to import electricity from Turkey through a 400-kilovolt transmission line between the two countries "soon", the Syrian state news agency cited the country's energy minister as saying on Sunday.

Mohammad Bashir confirmed that, in addition to the electricity deal, the two countries are working jointly to construct a strategic natural gas pipeline from Kilis Province on the Turkish side of the border into Syria’s Aleppo Governorate,

Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir said Friday Damascus and Ankara had reached a deal for Turkey to supply natural gas to the war-torn country via a pipeline in the north.

The overtures to Washington are part of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's pledge to end Syria's international sanctions.

Al-Bashir called on Turkish companies to invest in Syria, saying that ‘’Investment is available in all areas of energy, including oil and natural gas exploration, refining and transportation, rehabilitation of power lines and power generation plants, and rebuilding refineries.’’
