F1 stars face 2025 race ban under controversial new swearing rules - Four-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen was punished for swearing last year

The FIA has issued new guidelines that could see F1 drivers face hefty fines, points deductions, and a one-month suspension or more for repeated misconduct violations.

F1 drivers face bans if they repeatedly swear or criticise the sport's governing body under changes to the FIA's sporting code for the 2025 season.

Criticism for the FIA's decision to start punishing misconduct has not been limited to the drivers and fans, there has also reportedly been much opposition within the governing body itself. BBC Sport has reported that the decision was pushed through by Mohammed Ben Sulayem himself.

The F1 drivers face hefty fines, a ‘1-month suspension’ and even a ‘deduction of championship points’ should they be found guilty of ‘misconduct’ or causing ‘moral injury’ to the FIA. The FIA have issued new stewards’ penalty guidelines that lay out these penalties.
