We are cruising New England coast early October and have a day in Bar Harbour. We would like to experience the fall colours and assume that Acadia National Park is the best place to do it. I have cruised before in that area. I would only use the tours that the cruise ship uses. They have some nice ones. I would start looking at their shore excursions. You can signup online even before you board if you want to. That way you won't miss getting back on the ship if there is a delay with the tour. In town I recommend that you eat at the Side Street Cafe, or the West Street Cafe. Great lobster rolls and lobster bisque. You also must try some blueberry pie.

You can find there website if you search Acadiatours...green/white school bus loads outside of Testa’s restaurant.. It has pricing on the site and you can purchase there as well. Would suggest you book early since they do fill up. Is is a short walk from the pier...maybe a couple of blocks. Hope this helps
